
At least six people were killed and eight others were injured after a truck carrying over a dozen construction workers fell into a roadside ditch at Sajek in Rangamati’s Baghaichari on Wednesday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident occurred at about 6:00pm on the day at a remote place called Ninety Degree in the Udaipur border area when a dump truck fell into a roadside ditch, said Shirin Akter, Baghaichari upazila nirbahi officer.
She said that the accident killed six people and eight others were injured.
A fire service rescue team and a police unit rescued the injured and sent them to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital, Shirin said.
Sajek union parishad chairman Atulal Chakma told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the accident took place when about 14 workers of the border road construction were returning home after work.
‘The truck fell down near the Ninety Degree hills after its driver lost control leaving six of them dead on the spot,’ he said.
The condition of the injured was critical, added the UP chairman.
