The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh will resume selling essential commodities in the various selling points in the capital and some other places of the country from Sunday.
This programme will continue alongside its regular sales to smart family cardholders at subsidised rates, according to a press release issued by the state agency on Saturday.
According to the press release, the sales programme would continue in Dhaka through 60 trucks from August 10 to September 13 excluding Fridays.
Moreover, similar mobile truck sales would also run in Chattogram city (25 trucks), Gazipur city (6), Cumilla city (3), Dhaka district (8), Cumilla district (12), Faridpur district (4), Patuakhali district (5) and Bagerhat district (5) from August 10 to August 31, also excluding Fridays.
The government resumed the truck sale at the time when almost all the essential commodities witnessed a sharp hike, including onion, eggs, chicken and vegetables.
Moreover, country鈥檚 general inflation slightly rose to 8.55 per cent in July 2025 from 8.48 per cent a month earlier, driven largely by higher food prices, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data on Thursday.
In July, the food inflation rose to 7.56 per cent, up from 7.39 per cent in June, reflecting continued strain on household spending.
TCB stated that each truck would serve around 500 consumers daily selling soybean oil, sugar, and lentils at affordable prices to all consumers.
Under the programme 2 litres of soybean oil would be sold at Tk 230, 1 kg of sugar at Tk 80, and 2 kg of lentils at Tk 140.
Sales prices for smart family cardholders would remain unchanged, the press release added.
